How would you like YR˛ to be packaged? [257 votes total]
  • Using an installer (187)
  • As an archive (38)
  • Other (please comment) (16)
  • I don't care! (16)

Some Fan Comments:

  • KennyMcCormick: An installer, cuz: 1) harder to corrupt, 2) easy installable, 3) should include uninstaller, cuz otherwise, taking the right files away is pretty tedious work.
  • SwampThing: Doesn't an installer remove the files automatically when you finish playing? Anyway, I don't really care what you use, as both have drawbacks and good sides for me. I need my space, yet not having to look all over my RA2 folder for files is a nice thing too. As such, I am neutral. Pick whatever you want.
  • Chopbam: I vote installer. Especially for those people who play many mods for YR. Installers come with uninstallers. You can choose when you exit the game whether you want to remove the files or not. Installers are customizable. They work for everybody.
  • justaconscript: Installer, definitely. They're pretty much idiot proof. *whistle whistle*
  • M60: Well, I go for archives... I'm just used to archives rather than installers...
  • Cerberus: While I would prefer an installer, there is an common ground between the two. Anyone remember the old desert storm mod for Red Alert? It was a combination of both, it was a zip, but it had a bat file that would rename all the files to valid ones and then ran the game. That is actually what I did for MooMan's Rules, I just made it rename them all to a ".moo" extension. That way you can have automatic removal of the mod with out the increased size and the longer wait.
  • Lios: Basically I want it to be like the way you had for MooMan's Rules!  Good luck with the mod.
  • littlebry: If you mean the mod, a launcher like Cannis, if you mean the file, installer.
  • Snakebite: Personally I'd go for archived, although didn't I read somewhere that someone has recently created an "any" mod installer/uninstaller?
  • Daedalus: I personally vote the XCC Mod Launcher over an installer or ZIP file. It's just easier and the mod deactivates itself on its own.  It's just easier for people to unzip, run, and go. In the long run it'd save time, I guess.  There can't be an easier way to run the mod than to just open the launcher and click "launch game". Especially if you're me, who doesn't have RA2/YR installed to the default directory, thus making unzipping MUCH slower. So just in general, it would take less time to just run the launcher and play the game for people like me.
  • Zero2: 1 word.  Packages
  • Bolt: XCC Mod Launcher or Installer, I dont mind. But XCC Launcher is easier for the public. On the other hand installers look nicer...
  • eh: You could always have two versions available, one in an archive and one with a mod launcher (possibly SaberHawks??), or a mod launcher in an archive. :P
  • Wrath: Well, you could always have the XCC, but it is a LOT faster to unzip. You could have two versions, I guess...
  • Lord Ulysses: How about a common launcher as Cannis'?
  • mrruben5: XCCL for life baby! :)
