| Major Feature 2 Part C: Desert (TX) Retexturing | | - MooMan65 | September 26, 2005 | Just like that, another 2% has been completed bringing the overall count to 31%! This should illustrate that development is not linear. It may take a long while to jump a percentage point one time, and be much quicker for another point; it all depends on how much time I have available to work on this (not to mention that that percentage bar isn't exactly 100% consistant the whole way through). Being that I've done mainly retexturing since the start of the year it has become quite tedious to do this, but nonetheless, I've started it so I've got to see it through! This is a stepping stone to bigger things. Believe me.
This 2% comes in the form of the completed Desert theater Terrain Expansion retexturing, which focused a lot on adding in water-based tilesets and other common ones from other theaters that were left out. Because this is all about screenshots, I can save myself any more describing and just link you here so you can show yourself.
Thanks to there being a more TX maps available in the Desert theater, I have four great ones to show things off in! Props to Cannis for bringing us More of Egypt, Desert Pacific, Sand Snakes and Crystal Forest (co-designed with Blade) which you of course can play at any time normally (i.e. you don't need to wait for YR˛)! Without these I'd have no way of satisfying all your intense desires for pretty pictures, so this really is a treat for me.
So what else is coming up? NewUrban naturally, although it will probably be just as intense as Snow was so there might be a decent wait for that to be completed, but I should find some more time to type up paragraphs to get the rest of Yuri's pages online in the mean time. Plus who knows what other tidbits of info I might release in the future, seperate from these two main things? Stay tuned!
| Yuri Part 1 Released! | | - MooMan65 | September 20, 2005 | Wow! I actually had some free time at Uni today and typed up the info page for Yuri's Structures within that time! That's good for you guys too, as otherwise you would have had to wait a much longer time. All the free time I have at home is spent actually working on the mod itself, so this was a good use of available time elsewhere where I don't have anything better to do.
So it's here! The beginning of the final faction's info pages for your reading pleasure! I know these have been very anticipated, as Yuri no doubt has undergone the biggest amount of changes of the three sides. The majority of his changes lie in his infantry and vehicles, so naturally I have to finish with them! In the mean time, enjoy the build up starting with his structures. Hopefully this trend continues and I can take advantage of things are complete the others much sooner than expected. This was done rather quickly, so forgive any typos should you find any.
NOTE: For poll users, this let's you in one some parts of Yuri's army that may affect your vote. Namely, the Spies/Agent's immunity to being detected by anything other than standard Attack Dogs. So this means the Psychic Sensor, Psychic Tower, Psi Corp Trooper and any other psychic units that used to detect them are now useless. Let me know in the comments section if you are wanting to change your vote as a result of this.
| Major Feature 2 Parts A & B: Temperate/Snow (TX) Retexturing | | - MooMan65 | September 16, 2005 | Just as I complete another percentage point of YR˛ (it's now at 29%), I've reached the point where I can introduce the next major feature of the mod! You'll no doubt be familier as to what it is, as it greatly expands from Major Feature 1 allowing the mod to have a very comprehensive and unique look to it.
To introduce the feature, you should be aware of the Terrain Expansion add-on to Yuri's Revenge; one of C-GEN's proudest achievements. If you aren't, take some time to first read through the introduction page on their site before continuing to read this, as I will assume you know what it does from this point on.
YR˛ will make full use of the TX. In fact, the TX will come built in to the mod itself! This is necessary for obvious reasons as most TX tilesets need to also be retextured for them to match up with my modified terrain from Beta 2. The great thing is, just like Major Feature 1, this modification does not break any existing compatibility with maps! You will be able to play any TX map and it will utilise the modified graphics in the same way the standard maps use them. You can even have the normal version of the TX already installed with YR˛ and the two versions won't conflict with each other (for the most part, I'll talk about the specific in a moment). Install YR˛, the graphics will be altered; uninstall it, and they go back to the way it was before. No worries, no fuss!
There is a small exception however, in that if you have the theater INI Control Files loose in your RA2/YR Directory. With the TX you have the option to include those files loose in your directory when you install it to allow you to create maps in the Final Alert 2 map editor. Unfortunately, YR˛ will also have it's own INI Control Files that will need to be installed so consequently they will conflict with the normal TX versions. There are two solutions for this issue: Either backup the normal TX INI files by moving them out of the directory or renaming them, or delete them entirely and extract them again from the normal TX expandmd06.mix file when you want them back. Don't worry though, I'll hope to have the YR˛ installer do this for you when you install/uninstall the mod so most people won't have to do any manual playing around in the directory. I know how much of a hassle it is with MooRules!
Right! Let's get on with what I've done so far shall we? Again, this feature is a retexturing one so it's all about the screenshots! As the title suggests, I've done two theaters already, but only Snow will be illustrated to you at this time. The reason for this is there is a lack of any TX Temperate maps available, not to mention the Temperate theater was not added to in any major way unlike the others, and there wouldn't be too much to display anyway. So Snow it is; and thanks to Truefeel's amazing TX map, Rocket's Red Glare 2, you can feast your eyes here on five new screenshots displaying the new urban-look the TX gives to the theater! Gotta have a promo shot too...
So enjoy the shots, and you've got more to look forward to as I have NewUrban and Desert to some (although unless some Lunar maps are made and released before I release, only the first two will have pretty pictures I'm afraid). This feature makes up the brunt of the percentage completion for Beta 3, although there are a few other supplimentary things to do afterwards. Again I thank you all for your patience!
