And One More Makes Two...

- MooMan65

August 20, 2004

Just a quick note to let everyone know I have a second computer now! I have hooked this new one together with the old one to get a crossover network going so from now on you and I will never have to worry about me losing the mod or anything else should there be a major computer crash.

After some tiring grueling days of setting it up and making sure it all works, I'm now back where I left off and ready to finalise the beta. The beta itself is 95% completed, however I still must finish the new layout afterwards so the rest of you have something new also. Hehe. Shouldn't be long now!

I've Thought Of One!

Sorry that this is a bit late in the month as usually I change polls at the beginning of it, but I have been stuck on a poll question to ask... Until now...

So! On the eve of the beta release it's new poll time! And this one isn't a filler as well *cough* so I could use some feedback. Firstly though I'll go over the past poll. Surprisingly quite a lot of people are preferring I stick with RA2/YR. It seems that even though it's getting older by the month it still has a dedicated fan base which I'm glad to see! Of course the other explanation is that since this website is all about RA2/YR currently only RA2/YR fans come here. I was aware of this fact before the poll began however so it doesn't bother me. To be honest with you I was, before this poll, planning to move on to Generals as I have had a mod idea planned for over a year now that would be more suitable in a 3D engine. However Generals doesn't have to be the target of the idea. It would be the best choice if there indeed is a C&C3 in the making since it would suit my mod idea more. This poll as also gotten me thinking about the past C&C games that I used to mod way back when... Their smaller modding capabilities mean mods can be created for them in less time, or could be created at the same time as another. Who knows?

Anyway, time to explain the new question:

"Do you like the idea of making generic unit and structures have unique abilities?"

Now what I mean by that is the units and structures like the Barracks, Walls, Amphibious Transports, War Factories etc... All of those types of game objects that could have even the slightest bit of variation amongst them to make them unique (and so have an excuse to build them if you capture an opponants base especially if they aren't prerequisites to any of their units.) The most obvious example of this currently is what EA did with the Miners for each side. What I am thinking of doing is nothing as big as name and concept changes for most, just some little statistic changes that could make them more unique. To give you an example I was thinking of the Walls for each side:

Allied Wall: It could be slightly cheaper or faster to build.
Soviet Wall: It could be slightly stronger.
Yuri Wall: It could be able to be placed a further distance from an existing wall and fill in the gaps (currently all three are set at five, this could be six).

This is only an example. Another option would be to indeed restore the older names for the Amphibious Transport EA was planning to use (Landing Craft and Armored Transport) and give them differences to Yuri's Hover Transport. Whatever is thought up...

In addition to the simple Yes and No choices in the poll which mean you agree or disagree with the entire concept, there also a 'Mixture' option in which you agree with the concept but not on all Generic-type game objects. If you vote for this you should leave a Comment explaining your views on which ones should be changed and which ones should stay the same.

So while you're thinking about that, here are the final results from the last poll:

What would you prefer I do after YR˛? [238 votes total]

-Continue Solely With YR˛! (42)
-Move To Generals (66)
-Stay With RA2/YR (101)
-Go Back To Past C&C Games (22)
-Other (please comment) (7)

There is no comment responces this time around as this poll wasn't totally related to people giving their opinions on ideas for YR˛. Thank you so much for all those who DID post comments though as you helped me greatly thinking about this. As usual all the comments are located in the Past Polls section for those who haven't read them, along with all the other polls too!
