| Yay... | | - MooMan65 | May 24, 2006 | Once again I am left high and dry. particle has now suddenly quit his AI job making him the second to do so in the space of exactly one month. I don't know if this was their fault for thinking they can do more than they could, real life's fault for thrusting the unexpected upon them, or my fault for not examining people more before deciding to 'hire' them. In any case, if any of you ask me why I do this all by myself and not with a team of people; this is the reason. Far too many people are either too lazy, preoccupied, lead unstable real lives or are just simply not dedicated enough to carry out assigned jobs. It's a good thing I had kinda predicted particle's withdrawal earlier and had started some AI evaluation myself after the last newspost and thanks to the many helpful posts and emails people have sent since then.
So yes, that means the 6% of AI development is now thrust upon me. No doubt this pushes back release immensily. I originally had a deadline of a late-June release in my mind as I am going overseas for four weeks afterwards, but now this seems like a very unlikely target and it doesn't help that a new Uni Semester begins immediately after I come back from my holiday leaving no free time in-between. I'm not going to be accepting any more offers to do the AI. I'm sick of people backing out. I'll just do it myself.
I am not without sympathy to you people's situation though; waiting for so long and all... It's also possible I may simply bump the AI percentage down from 6% to something smaller and just make v1.0 AI's do nothing more than have a few basic teams using the new unit additions just to keep you happy... It'll be nothing special or really challanging for hard-core players, but it'll get it out sooner and then I can spend more time working on it when I don't have the pressure of an imminant release on my hands.
In fact, now that I'm thinking about this. I'm turning this decision into a new poll. It's about time the other one finished, and this is something I would want the public's opinion on in the next few weeks...
What do you think should happen regarding AI in v1.0?
With the options of either doing the entire decent 6% of the AI myself and pushing back the release, or only doing the basics for this version and release it sooner. Please give your opinion!
| We need YOU... | | - MooMan65 | May 19, 2006 | ...to help assist in our AI! No no, you don't have to code anything; what you can do to help us is tell us your favorites strategies in games that you play! The combo of units you use, what you do with them, what maps you do them on, what other teams you use in conjunction with them... Anything! What you type up can help particle and myself in AI work, which will undoubtedly speed things up for us.
I've created a forum thread specifically for this purpose, but of course you can let us know by e-mail, MSN, Private Message, etc. if that suits you.
Thanks for any help you can give us!
| Major Feature 4 Complete | | - MooMan65 | May 13, 2006 | As I complete the final changes to the maps for v1.0 (notice that we are now at 43% completion), I've decided to release another five-set screenshot set that shows examples from different maps instead of focusing on a single one like the previous set. With these, you can see examples of some of the more major-changes I've made with some maps.
And more...
Major Feature 4 is now done; although in all fairness, it can never be truely 'complete'. For future patch and major versions I will always be accepting peoples submissions of ways they think could improve the official maps based on what they play in this public release and I could always revisit them at any time myself.
So what's next? The public release will occur bang-on at 50% completion. Exactly seven percent remains. Six of this seven is not my work, but particle's (who has taken over AI duties from stordoff.) The final one percent is the big bit that comprises of many tasks including packing the mod and installer, fixing any remaining bugs, touching up things that need it and creating the remaining information pages for this site. This is what I will be working on from this point on while the AI is being done. I warn you, all of this is basically background work so you won't see much activity here beyond me updating the percentage meter every time particle makes progress. Not long to go now!!
