It's Been Long Enough!

May 11, 2004

That's right! New poll time! I received a huge amount of votes for the Service Depot poll which was great to see, as well as some great comments. Even though the choice to give him a Service Depot won, the majority of the comments were made by people preferring not to give him one or giving him something else, which goes to show that for the most part people who voted to give him a Depot were just those people preferring to get me to add as many things in as possible. Of course I could be wrong. As a result of this poll I have decided to hold off the idea of giving Yuri a Service Depot until I can continue to reassess how I will be changing his side in YR˛. I'll bring up some reasons for this when I reply to some of the comments in this poll shortly.

This new question may make you feel a bit nervous, with me thinking of other things already, but I can assure you this question is just a filler until I come across something else in YR˛ that needs fan feedback. The main reason why I ask this is that definatly sometime this year I will be getting a new computer (YAY!) and so it will then become possible for me to finally play Generals and whatever else ends up being released. So... What I'm wondering is because of this I would kinda like to know what you people would like me to do once the first public version of YR˛ is out:

"What would you prefer I do after YR˛?"

The choices I could think of just now would be to: 1) Stay solely with YR˛ (as in dedicate my time to just updating and working on that mod only); 2) Move to Generals (I have had a great mod idea planned for it or any other future C&C game since before it came out); 3) Stay With RA2/YR (continue with all of my existing mods and projects for RA2/YR only); 4) Go back to Past C&C Games (as in Tiberian Sun, Red Alert etc.); or finally your choice if you have another option you can vote Other and comment your idea. This can give me idea as to how the community wants me to proceed, before I ever start to think personally about what to do.

Oh, here are the final results for the last poll:

For the record, here are the results of the last poll:

"Should Yuri gain the use of a Service Depot?" [213 votes total]

-Yes /w Grinder (95)
-Yes Bumping Grinder (23)
-Yes Replacing Grinder (13)
-No! (82)

And now it's time for me to sit down and respond some some of the comments posted! Like always I will post the name of the person who commented and reply. If you want to view their original comments head to the Past Polls page to read up on them:

Some Fan Responses:

-ExtremeDumb: You and others make a good point here, after all, why does he care that his units are damaged? However, every good commander knows how to best utilise the forces at his disposal. Yuri must realise during the course of the missions that his forces are losing ground, and may think up alternative strategies normally against his judgement to continue the fight. Good point though.
-Natus: Very nice choice of words here. And I see what you're getting at along with the others who suggested this method. However you must remember my last 'New Poll' post in which I mentioned that Yuri is getting a facelift. I aim to make Mind Control not as prominant in his team as before in favor of other terroristic methods for realisms sake, although it will still be relatively easy for Yuri players to control enemy units, whether it be through Mind Control or not. This just brings me to my point above, that Yuri could consider other methods should he find that he needs to repair units more often in order to keep his position strong.
-flefilker: This is something that I did want to hear. The results from someone who has already done this. I'm glad to hear that it's working out so well for you, and it's quite possible that during the beta sessions I could add one in myself in the end to see how they respond to it. In the mean time I think will hold back on adding it in just yet to consider the other options given to me first.
-Clazzy: I love your comment Clazzy! You win the Comment of the Year award!
-mrruben5/TQ: Both of your ideas is what actually got me to decide against a Service Depot in the end. One thing I'm trying to promote in YR˛ is diversity, not just in images and names but concepts as well. While it could be nice to give Yuri the concept of repairing damaged units, it doesn't have to be in the same form as the other sides. I'll be researching options as well as these ones to see which works out the best.

Big thanks to those comment posters this time! They are all located in the Past Polls section for those who haven't read them, along with all the other polls too!
