| YR˛ Update | | - MooMan65 | May 23, 2003 | You're probably wondering where on earth I have been the past couple weeks? Well, a combination of schoolwork and mod work is to blame. Most recently I have also been struck down with the flu so that has kept me out of the loop for a while.
There is good news though! If you look on the left sidebar I have stuck up the Country information for YR˛! It gives you background information on each country/faction in the game along with their bonus and (most recently implimented) their deficiency. The stats have changed somewhat since my last post on it, and I've given each country a deficiency that's almost directly opposite of their bonus (eg. The British get a boost with Infantry, but sacrifices Unit Construction.) Of course once again I say these stats aren't final, they could be subject to change at any time, but it is a good starting point for you as readers to get some idea of the diversity of each country in the game.
| Moo's Mumblings #2: Country Bonuses | | - MooMan65 | May 8, 2003 | If you recall back in Red Alert, it also used the system of different countries for each playable side in the game (Allies and Soviets). Something that wasn't officially stated in the manual is that each of those countries had a certain bonus or deficiency in an area of combat to set them apart from the other countries of the same side. If you didn't know, here are those countries and their differences:
-England: 10% Stronger Armor -Germany: 10% Stronger Firepower -France: 10% Slower Rate Of Fire -Ukraine: 10% Fasters Groundspeed -Russia: 10% Cheaper Costs
Although it may not seem like a large difference, it DID provide some uniqueness for each country, so they simply were not clones of each other.
RA2/YR was also originally planning to have bonuses/weaknesses like this, but was removed in favour of each country getting a unique unit/structure of its own. For YR˛ I have decided to somewhat restore this system. By looking at what the then-Westwood Pacific did, and examining what the country is supposed to represent in the game, I have thought up the bonuses for each Yuri's Revenge country. (NOTE: Since Yuri does not have any countries of his own, his side does not get any bonuses.)
-America: 15% Cheaper Units -England: 20% Stronger Infantry -Germany: 15% Stronger Units -France: 25% Cheaper Defences -Korea: 15% Faster Aircraft -Russia: 20% More Income -Cuba: 20% Quicker Building Construction -China: 25% Cheaper Infantry -Ukraine: 15% Faster Units
This is only the first version of the adjustments, as testing continues they could easily change. This is to give the countries some diversity but not weakening them in any way (who would want their favorite country weakened? )
