The Speed!!

- MooMan65

November 30, 2004

It took a day, but my new computer is all set up with my awesome speaker system and finally decent graphics card going strong! I played Generals for the first time ever yesterday... I must it's a great engine, but I just couldn't connect with the gameplay as easily. It took long enough to set the AI conditions so they fought each other and let me explore all the things I could build (and yes, I didn't know about Sandbox mode then. ) The maps look quite generic too, everyone usually starts in the same rough position with the terrain changed. I guess I've just been playing RA2/YR too long.

You're safe to know that Generals isn't pulling me enough to move me away from RA2/YR (at least not at the moment). Now with YR anyway running ten times faster than before I can go hard with the modding! For once max Game Speed is too fast! I had a bit of trouble with YR causing WinXP's equivalent of Illegal Operations every time it loaded, but then I discovered the Compatibility tab in the properties. Strange how RA2 ran fine but YR didn't... Oh well. Back to the modding! Expect info pages soon! I'm getting there!

Freedom!

At last! My last exam finished on Friday but I had to work for three days in a row, but now that that's all over also I'm finally free! I might as well list all the thing I've got to do:

-Get the Soviet and Yuri info pages up. Boy it takes a while to type them up, especially when you're trying to actually make the mod in the background ha!
-Get Beta 2 out, which will feature Game Mode additions (and of course full information on here for everyone else) and any other new or modified game objects I neglected to do for Beta 1.
-Then finally after that compile a remaining list of everything I need to do, anything that can be done as new things after a public release, and get a percentage bar going so you guys can see how much to do before public release. No exact dates obviously, but it can give you an idea.

I really should ask a beta tester or two to help me type up these info pages, they know the format it's in, plus have actually used everything. It could give me more time to work on the actual mod itself. But we'll see. As things are getting worse with my current computers. There has to be something wrong with the RAM Chips inside and they're running out of memory to load everything like after an hour or so of running. It's very difficult to mod when the game is crashing every 10min! This shouldn't be an issue for very longer, as I'm ordering a new computer today! That's right! After three years of being on sub-par computers for running anything nowadays I can finally get up to speed!! As I'm a total idiot when it comes to assembling a computer myself, I'm going with a Dell instead. It's certainly one of cheapest options out of the available... Might as well list the specs as well:

Dell Dimension 8400
-Pentium 4 3.0GHz
-512MB DDR RAM
-160GB Hard Drive
-128MB ATI Radeon X300SE
-17" CRT Monitor (don't need no expensive LCD crap!)
-16X DVD ReWriter
-Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (luxury man!)
-Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card (weeee!)
-5.1 Surround Sound Speakers w/ Subwoofer (have to get the best speakers possible!)

Okay it may not be totally beefed up, but that's why the process of upgrading exists! It'll do me for sure anyway! Me being used to Celeron processors and 128MB RAM.

Anyway. The current poll's getting interesting... What started as a majority agreeing with my removal of the Force Shield entirely, there's growing support for it to be a Soviet-only superweapon instead. It's getting close! If you haven't voted please do!
