Allies Revenge 2 Open!

- MooMan65

November 30, 2002

Detail of Editing Source (which by the way won't be back for another few days), has informed me that the Allies Revenge 2 homepage is now open at it's new URL (http://www.alliesrevenge2.com). The site is almost identical in layout with changes here and there, but it is still under construction. Their forums are also up and running here! Glad to see them back!

Site Updates

- MooMan65

November 29, 2002

Couple things I would like to note:

-ArgCmdr has informed me that his site, YR Argentina, has moved to a new server and has a much improved layout! I have updated the site links accordingly.

-The download pages are undergone a slight adjustment, nothing too major, you can see for yourself on any page you visit from now on.

-Finally, I have updated the Mod Database and Affiliates list to disable all sites that have since lost hosting with the recent loss of Federation Studios. As I get notified of their new locations I will activate the links again pointing to the new place.

New Infantry Unit!

- MooMan65

November 29, 2002

It has been some time since I added a new graphics submission to MODDEN! This one is a Nazi Officer .SHP, created by Virus, the same person who submitted the British SAS/Commando unit earlier. It is a very nicely done modified version of the General Vladimir .SHP already in RA2! Details follow:

Creator: Virus
-Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge
-Type: Infantry
-Name: Nazi Officer

D-Day Anyone?

- MooMan65

November 29, 2002

A lot of you have heard of Blitzkrieg and Frontline, both World War II Total Conversion mods in the making for Yuri's Revenge... Well, there is another that has been avoiding global publicity for some time now. This mod is called D-Day, and Andre27, a staff member for D-Day, has informed me of a D-Day Unit Gallery forum thread showing off a number of the beautiful voxels that will be in the mod. Two sample units are shown below, clicking on them will take you to the forum thread where you can view the rest!

Frontline Mod News

- MooMan65

November 28, 2002

The Frontline Mod Homepage has been updated giving us a list of all the features that will be in Public Beta 2.2, the general additions are below:

-New AI
-Some new unit art
-New AI
-Battleship AA improved by 50-75%
-Ground-based AA defence improved by 50%
-New Game Modes

Visit the site for specific side updates!

In related news, they have also posted a picture of the US M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage which you can view in this forum thread!

Stardust Studios!

- MooMan65

November 28, 2002

Call it the reincarnation of FedNET so to speak. It's run by different people, but it offers the same free hosting and oppertunities as FedNET used to. Currently the main site is not up, but the forums are. You should see former FedNET sites pop up in the new network, others will move on. I wish them luck with the new Network!

Mod Note

- MooMan65

November 28, 2002

Recently I have been getting a lot of e-mails from people asking why only certain parts of mods are working, like only the graphics, and none of the new things are available. The issue is brought up in MooRules' Readme file, but I am aware many people don't even look in it. You MUST have the V1.001 patch of Yuri's Revenge installed and working to play most mods nowadays, as the origional version of the game does not read expandmdxx.mix files. I tell you this hopefully reducing the number of 'help me!' e-mails I receive!

Ren Alert Screenies!

- MooMan65

November 27, 2002

More screenies coming right up! First up is Dante's Tesla Coil model that will be used in the mod, two screenshots in fact for that, one in-game and one of it being tested! The others tell a story in fact, 'Aircraftkiller Verses the SAM Site'! Click on the respective thumbnails below to go to their screenshots sections!

YR: Secrets Revealed

- MooMan65

November 27, 2002

After FedNET went down, the YR: Secrets Revealed website was one of those hosted which lost their provider. The site has now been moved to RA2 Map Guild which you can visit the new site at http://www.cncwars.com. The site is still work in progress, but I'm glad to see it is back up!

Quick Note

- MooMan65

November 26, 2002

MooMan's Rules is finally activated at the Mod Database and you can view the page here. Allies Revenge 2, Frontline and YR: Secrets Revealed has also been added to the list at this time!

Also I got a reply back from Banshee about the possibility of RA2.TLB editing:

Ra2 is not our main objective in the moment, but we can try that too ;).

Finally!

- MooMan65

November 26, 2002

Today I received my GMPT CD! I'll leave all the general talk and information posting to the many other Generals fansites, but one thing's for sure, you won't be disappointed with this game! The engine is truely superb! The modding possibilities surpass any other RTS game to date, from what I can see through the .INI files you can add in new sides, special weapons, sciences, and even change the sidebar around (maybe revisit the origional vertical sidebar!) First stop though for me is to get a better computer, you need a power house to enjoy the full experience of the game!

ModDB Expanded

- MooMan65

November 25, 2002

Mod Database, in my opinion one of the most comprehensive mod management sites around, has expanded it's reach into Red Alert 2. Thanks to Detail of Editing Source this e-mail came to my attention:

At long last Red Alert 2 has been added to the database. Sorry about taking so long. So please submit your mod http://mods.moddb.com/add/ and tell anyone else you know to submit theirs also!

Regards,
Scott 'INtense!' Reismanis
http://www.moddb.com/
scott@moddb.com
Mod Database - "Every game, every mod, one site... go figure!"
You heard him! I urge every mod maker in the RA2 editing community to submit their mods to the site! You don't actually give them you mod, you simply give them a link to your site where you can download it. Once you register, you can add your mod, and upload screenshots, images and all sorts of information to go with the mod so when people click on your mod in the database, it comes up with a large information page where people know exactly what your mod is about! The mod owner can post news on their mod section to update everyone on the mods progress, shout out for assistance, and list all the people in your mod team. All Registered members can rate, comment on, and even submit their own screenshots of that mod to the site! Your mod doesn't even have to be released, when you register your mod, you can select a '% Completion' bar value, and select the status of your mod, whether it in Alpha, Beta or Released stages!

I have submitted MooMan's Rules to the ModDB (notice the additional image in the left sidebar), and once an admin of the site approves it, it will be available for everyone to view. You can do the same now!

PS. The observant among you would notice that the Promo Screenshots when you click on the Red Alert 2 game information page are actually screenshots of mods! Not the normal game! On the left you see an old MooMan's Rules shot, and on the right is an old Blitzkrieg screenie!

Frontline Mod News

- MooMan65

November 25, 2002

Whizzer has informed me that the Frontline Mod Website has moved to a new host and domain (http://www.frontlinemod.com) since the closure of Federation Studios on Friday. Also their forums have come back online unfortunatly after FedNET crashed earlier on, all MySQL data was lost. Head over to the new site here!

Interesting News!

- MooMan65

November 25, 2002

I received this in my e-mail today from Banshee, of our affiliate, Project Perfect Mod:

PPM has started a public translation of the .tlb files that comes with Tiberian Sun. We are starting with variables, soon we'll check the interfaces, co-classes and classes and people will have a good info of what happens "behinds the scenes" of the game, of the modding limits and much more info about it that may lead us to find out new things. More details in PPM
Pretty interesting news for those of you who know what they are talking about! And here's the latest newspost on the topic at their site:

That's it, people. The library (.tlb files) researches are opened and the variables have already received some translation. We gonna find several things from coordinate modes until fire problems, picture manipulations, facing manipulations, etc. The contents there are were not made for dummies, but you can also check the small feedback available in the Libraries: The Research Start topic. It's all in the Advanced Tech Center and you must register to view and reply. Please, help for this important event for the TS modding community!
So why not take a look at their progress! You'll also find an in-depth description on what .tlb files are and do for a program.

Although this is for Tiberian Sun, I for one do still play the game, but I have asked Banshee if they ever plan to do the same thing to Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge should the Tiberian Sun translation prove effective. When I get a reply I'll let you guys know.

CR Update Part 2

- MooMan65

November 24, 2002

Cannis has put up the second part of his sleep potion... er... mod information. . Hehe. This time it's about CannisRules' future with Stolen Technology. The whole newspost is available here and here's a snippet:

In Red Alert2, the 2 sides multiplied by the 2 Battle Labs resulted in 4 possible "secret" stolen tech units: Chrono Commando, Chrono Ivan, Psi Commando, and Yuri Prime. When the pre-release hype news surrounding the Yuri's Revenge expansion described the addition of a 3rd side, I (and several other fans) looked forward to what should have been 9 stolen tech guys (3 sides multiplied by 3 Battle Labs). I was very disappointed to discover that not only were no new "secret" units added, but that we effectively "lost" one since Yuri Prime became the 3rd side's hero unit ... This lack is something that I will be working to address in future public releases of CannisRules.

AR2 Screenshots

- MooMan65

November 24, 2002

Godwin, one of the creators of Allies Revenge 2, has sent me some screenshots exclusive to MODDEN of their upcoming Total Conversion. Regardless of what earlier happened to FedNET, the mod is still continuing, and the site is expected to move to it's own domain pretty soon, they have hosting all sorted out.

CannisRules Update

- MooMan65

November 23, 2002

Cannis has posted a newspost on the CannisRules Homepage about the possibilities with Secret Labs in future versions of CannisRules. It's worth the read, here's a snippet:

First is in the area of Secret Labs. The way Secret Labs are supposed to work, is that when you capture one, you can build a random country-specific unit (Snipers, Tesla Tanks, etc). The unmodded game didn't offer representative units for the USA (since the USA didn't have one) and for Korea (since without an Air Force Command you wouldn't be able to build Black Eagles anyway). Since the first release of CannisRules, these 2 country omissions were addressed: The USA's Special Forces Commando was added to the possible Secret Lab units, and the Black Eagle pad was added as well, as a way to be able to build Black Eagles no matter what side you played as.
Go here for the rest of the rambling!

Ren Alert Ore Silos!

- MooMan65

November 23, 2002

The Renegade Alert Alpha V.300 was sent out to the beta testers on Friday. And the Renegade Alert Site has been updated explaining the roles of Ore Silos in the mod as well as a screenshot of the Silo itself. Click on the thumbnail to jump to their Structure models page for the larger image:

And an explanation from L3f7h4nded on what the Ore Silo does in-game:

Unlike you might think it's not just for decoration. The Ore silos are what give you your constant flow of cash, and the Ore Refinery is just there for that 500 credit bonus every 4 minutes or so. Even if your refinery is down, you'll still be recieving 1-2 credits a second, so not all hope will be lost.

RenRealm Turnaround

- MooMan65

November 22, 2002

Earlier L3f7h4nd3d posted about shutting down Renegade Realm, however in a great turn of events we see this new message:

It's obvious from the outcry that the community won't allow Renegade Realm to die, so like the children's cartoon says, "We need YOUR help!" If you would like to help in any capacity (news updater, article writer, downloads manager, link manager), then send an email with what position you would like to fill and your qualifications for that position to L3f7H4nd3d@cncrenegade.info. I will be gone again this weekend, and will review all the applications Sunday afternoon. (Crimson, don't bother sending me an email, you're already on the short list ;)
Fantastic news! However RenRealm now needs YOU to help them stay alive! If you feel you're up to any of the tasks above, please e-mail L3f7y now!

Thanks to mcgl0re1 for the heads up!

About my Mysterious Disappearance...

- Unidentifiedname

November 22, 2002

Dear all,

Sorry guys, the monitor of my computer suffered some weird problem, so I wasn't able to post anything. I have just borrowed my sister's computer to post this (just to find out that Federation Studios has shut down... sigh...), so you shouldn't expect me to post regular news updates. However, I shall resume my original news posting speed once I get my monitor back.
That's all for now.

Best Regards,
Unidentifiedname

[ MooMan65: Thanks for letting us know, we'll keep the news rolling in your absance! ]

Federation Studios Closing

- Marshalus

November 22, 2002

I think the title says it all. For more information please read http://www.federationstudios.net/

Thanks.

[ MooMan65: This is a very sad day for the community, almost all modding sites remaining were part of the FedNET Network, and I do hope many of those sites find other homes to continue their work. Good luck on your future endevours Marsh! ]

RenRealm Shuting Down

- MooMan65

November 21, 2002

It is with great sadness to report that L3f7h4nd3d is halting work on Renegade Realm for various reasons:

After talking it over with Periclytes, we have decided to shut down Renegade Realm. We will keep all content and downloads online, but will not be actively seeking more things to put up or news items to post. The Renegade Alert mod will remain here at Renegade Realm, and updates will continue to be posted about that and any other major news item (such as the new patch). We have come to the conclusion that there isn't really anything Renegade-related going on except the new patch, Renegade Alert, and C&C Reborn.

In approximately one month Renegade Realm will reach it's one-year anniversary. I was hoping that we could make it until then and past that, but that just isn't going to happen. It's been a great run, and we thank everyone for their support. See you on the battlefield!

- L3f7h4nd3d

I wish him luck in the future!

Generals .BIG Format Broken!

- TQ

November 20, 2002

Ok, I said I wasn't really going to be posting news any more, but I found this at the Generals Official Boards and I thought it was too important
Scorpio9a: Today i broke the .big format of C&C Generals, i won't release an editor not yet anyways, i can tell you this,

"i see an modding future, a very big modding future" (Kane style )

There are 5.9 mb on .ini files (in the 200.000 lines of code), you can change almost everything what you can dream of, i can say this the dev team did a great job on this part!.

And the files aren't really .ini files anymore, they are using some sort of structure format (with some elemants of the .ini format).

Really big and great mods can be build.
That's really great news! For those of you that don't know, .BIG files will be replacing the traditional .MIX files in C&C Generals. Obviously Scorpio9a is doing the right thing by not releasing an extractor/editor yet, because there'd be people modding the beta instead of testing it, but it's still good to hear that the new format has been broken already

GMPT CD's Arriving!

- MooMan65

November 20, 2002

An announcement that needs mentioning here, Bandit at our sister site, CNCDEN reports that people have started receiving their CDs for the GMPT! I havn't got mine yet, but that is expected as it takes a long while to deliver anything to New Zealand! Now that the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), that prevented anyone in the test from releasing images and files relating to Generals, has been lifted I bet you'll start seeing a lot more screenshots to drool over!

I'm Back!

- MooMan65

November 20, 2002

Finally I can access the site again! As TQ told you earlier, my computer was sent in for a complete reformat and clean up. This ended up taking three days when it could be three hours, over the past day though I have reinstalling everything I lost in the process. They backed up my irreplaceable files so I havn't lost anything relating to MODDEN, although all applications need to be reinstalled. Takes a lot out of you!

Anyway, you can start sending me the usual again as I'm here to receive them, first on the agenda is a new update to the Capture Pack, which I'll have more on later!

It's good to be back!

PS. I have added Rolk's recently announced Generals project to the left sidebar, that makes two! I myself won't start anything for Generals until I get a much better comp than the one I already have.

Implement Law

- Rolk

November 20, 2002

Well, this has been in planning for a long time. Implement Law, my single player mod from Red Alert 2 is coming to Generals. Although the Red Alert 2 version never made it to a full public release, there we're a few beta's, and the responce was very good. I had planend for Implement Law (Also known as, IL) to be Renegade, but I lost interest when Renegade was being tested.

I thought of doing IL for Generals when it was first announce, I was doubting it though, until I saw Generals graphics and the smooth gameplay. I then thought, I should put IL up for Generals, I told MooMan65, and asked him if he would host it, he said sure. But Moo then said I have to go through with it or he'll come here and attack me

Alas, the page. So check out the Implement Law Page. More info soon!

The Prodigal Webbie Returns

- TQ

November 19, 2002

This is a....not overly necessary announcement, just to say that MooMan has returned from the netherworld, and though he's still largely off reinstalling stuff, I assume he'll be resuming as normal in the next 24 hours, which means this is probably my last post in this acting position...I'm sure you're all devastated Obviously, vxl's, shp's and site related emails etc. go to the normal location from now. TQ signing off.

New Affiliate

- TQ

November 19, 2002

You might notice a new link in the Featured Sites secion of our affiliates, to the Project Perfect Mod site. This is an interesting site of a group of people "dedicated to creating the perfect Mod for Tiberian Sun, and, most recently, Red Alert 2."
They started way back in 2000...Their TS mod is called Final Dawn, and the more recent RA2 mod is called Worlds Collide. Go check 'em out!

Quick Note

- TQ

November 19, 2002

Hey peeps...Today is the 3rd day since Moo took his comp to get fixed, and there's still no sign of his return. There's no knowing when he's going to get back; obviously the job is taking longer than expected, so it looks like I'm holding the fort for a while longer. Because of this, could anyone submitting vxl's, shps and other content to MODDEN please send them to me, instead of MooMan65, until further notice; if anyone has sent anything over the last couple of days could they also resend them to my email address (tq@cncden.com) because they'll be uploaded sooner if you do this. This is just a temporary measure to keep the site moving; I'm sure Moo will be back in the next day or so, and everything will be back to normal.

Total Destruction Mod

- TQ

November 18, 2002

I got an email from Renegade, the creator of the Total Destruction mod. He recently has had to restart the mod because it got too buggy, but the new version is looking good so far, and he is on the lookout for more ideas! He'd appreciate it if anyone with concepts for new units that they'd like to share (tanks, infantry, aircraft, navy etc.) could post them up at this address, no registration necessary.

Farewell To Malc

- TQ

November 18, 2002

This isn't really modding news, but I feel it deeserves a quick mention here anyway. Malc has decided to resign from the C&C Bunker Network. You can read his farewell notice here.

Additionally, Jamie has posted a quick note saying he'll be taking up the reins. Good luck Jamie

Renegade Alert Update

- TQ

November 17, 2002

Hey peeps, MooMan65 is out for a bit having his computer fixed, so he asked me to take over the news until he got back. At RenRealm, they've posted the latest piece of the Renegade Alert mod - the Allied and Soviet helipads! Click the pic below to check it out.

CannisRules V1.52

- MooMan65

November 17, 2002

(Again it's an internal development version, you can't download it)

Cannis has updated his Under Development Page with details from the latest build of CannisRules! The target this time is V2.0, but no set release date yet.

v1.52 11/17/02
-Tank Destroyer range increased by 1 to improve its usefulness and to improve the appeal of playing as Germany.
-YAK-24K Transport voxel updated with improved normals for even better appearance. Pic Available Here
-The mod now seems playable in the stock single-player campaigns. The alterations made to support this have required massive changes, but for the most part, they are of the "behind the scenes" type of changes - IOW, transparent to the user. However, of necessity, Aircraft Pads and Base Expansion Vehicles/Nodes have been changed to be available only in multiplayer/skirmish games. Testing is ongoing to be sure all is well in each of the many multiplayer game modes.
-Fixed bug introduced in v1.5 where Korean players could not build any sort of Rhino or Lasher Tanks, not even Capture Pack versions.
-Build time for StolenTech MCVs has been increased markedly. Their price remains the same, but building them will tie up your War Factory for quite a while longer.
-Added Abrams Tank as a possible Secret Lab and crategoodie unit. Unit properties and behavior are still being developed, but expect this to be a formidable and unique unit. Pic Available Here
-Recolored the YAK-24K cameo icon so it better fits in with the rest of the Soviet vehicle cameo icons. It looks a lot better in the game than it does here - the old one looked out of place.

The Lions Are Coming!

- MooMan65

November 17, 2002

Hehe, if you read on RADEN earlier, Clazzy is in the process of creating a Lion .shp for RA2/YR converted from Zoo Tycoon! No one has ever created one before and so, Lion's a bit excited over it!

Clazzy has sent in the latest progress of the .shp, this showing the running frames of the beast:

Unfortunatly as there are limitations on Zoo Tycoon models, there are no firing and death animations to convert, firing is alright if you don't give it a weapon, but I'll see what I can do with a death animation, unless of course someone is willing to volenteer to do one!

New Aircraft Voxel

- MooMan65

November 16, 2002

It's been some time since I've added some graphics to the download pages! Now I have a new aircraft voxel for you today! This one is the MiG-25 Fulcrum by Cyborg88. He modified the existing Westwood MiG voxel to seperate the wings from the back, the result being a rather convincing new voxel with almost perfect normals. I created the cameo for him to make the download as complete as possible after he submitted me a base image to work from.

Creator: Cyborg88
-Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge
-Type: Aircraft
-Name: MiG-25 Fulcrum
-Available:

Lao Tze's Units Pack 24.1

- MooMan65

November 15, 2002

Lao Tze has done a small update to his earlier Units Pack 24 which fixed a bug with the Airborne Rangers Elite Occupy weapon, and increased the Chrono Cavalier's firepower but also given it an ammo limit of 3. Head over to the Homepage for the download! He has also mentioned that he is taking a break from modding and won't resumme work on #25 of the pack until the 10th of December.

Head here to go to the Capture Pack Introduction page and try it out! This version is somewhat of a test as well, as now I can get the generals public to test out the new logic to see if there truely is no problems with it being in the game!

- Rolk

November 13, 2002

Welp, I might as well introduce myself. Some of you know me, some of you don't, but I will be helping out MooMan and Qw1rk with the site, as well as starting up a project for Generals, which more info will be up soon... I am also the sound editor for the Ren Alert Mod for Renegade. Cheers!

School's Out!

- MooMan65

November 13, 2002

Just to let you know that over here in New Zealand today was my last day of school (the 14th) and now I am looking forward to my two and a half month summer holiday/christmas break! With this I have plenty of free time now on my hands so expect a lot of site updates in the upcoming weeks!

CP V1.0 Unit List

- MooMan65

November 12, 2002

I have a final list of all the units that will have the recolouration logic activated with the Capture Pack V1.0:

Allies: Grizzly Battle Tank, Robot Tank, Prism Tank, Mirage Tank, Battle Fortress, and Harrier.

Soviets: Flak Track, Rhino Heavy Tank, V3 Rocket Launcher, Apocolypse Tank, and MiG.

Yuri: Lasher Light Tank, Chaos Drone, Gattling Tank, Magnetron, Mastermind, and Floating Disk.

This is only the starting list, although certain things like the IFV, MCV's and the special country units cannot be done, there are still naval units and some air units to do, as well as more modified cameos. It's only the beginning!

Renegade Alert Cards & Models

- MooMan65

November 12, 2002

Duel Renegade Alert news today:

First off, anyone heard of the Magic: The Gathering card game? Well, afkaos, creator of the M:TG Renegade Expansion Pack created some exclusive Renegade Alert cards! They include the Light Tank, Artillery, V2 Rocket Launcher, Soviet Infantry, Refinery and a special one of L3f7h4nd3d, head huncho of the mod and good friend of mine! You can check all those out here!

Secondly, they released a screenshot of the almost completed Tesla Tank model! Now remember the RA1 Tesla Tank is very different from the RA2 version. Click on the thumbnail below to jump to their vehicle models page!

Blitzkrieg News

CP Yuri Units

- MooMan65

November 10, 2002

I have just uploaded a quick preview image showing off the three versions of most of Yuri's units that will be in the Capture Pack. This includes the Gattling Tank, Mastermind, Chaos Drone and Floating Disk as the Lasher Tank you have already seen and possibly used in CannisRules V1.5.

Cannis and I are working on some more alternate cameos (the only ones that have been done so far are the ones for the basic tanks which also feature in the CannisRules V1.5 mod) and I hope to get some more in the Pack for V1.0 before release. If not there's always updates which can include more.

PS. Boris will also be modified so he will call in MiG's that are appropriate to your side.

Capture Pack Restrictions

- MooMan65

November 10, 2002

While progressing through the voxel testing, I have found that it requires too much micromanagment to have multiple Ore Miners and MCV's, and so the Capture Pack will not feature recoloured versions of them, especially the Slave Miner as it is also a structure within itself.

Also a number of air units will not be done, including the Nighthawk and Seige Chopper as, being that they are multi-sectioned voxels, do not turn out as good as the normal single sections voxels.

Finally the IFV will also not be used in the Capture Pack, this is due to a restriction on the game engine relating to IFV logic, so multiple IFV's are not allowed, this is unfortunate, as it is a standard Allied unit, but cannot be helped. I may find a workaround in the coming days however, but it is unlikely.

Enough of the bad news, the good news is I have finished all the recolourings that will be in V1.0 of the pack. Naval units have not been done yet and will be in the next version as I want to get this released as quick as possible. All I have to do now is the coding of the 'additional' units into the normal game, and do the MODDEN Capture Pack Project pages. Shouldn't be too long now!

Generals Release Date:

- Unidentifiedname

November 8, 2002

Sorry for my long absence. I had a 6 to 11 pm training at school for the past 3 days, so I didn't have any time to post stuff. Nonetheless, regarding MooMan's newspost regarding the Generals release date:
Transnote of Westwood: Unleashed has confirmed the release date of Generals to be 11th February. Here's a snippet from his newspost:
GameSpyDaily has learned that EA Pacific's highly anticipated RTS for the PC -- Command & Conquer Generals -- has been strategically delayed until February of next year. Now set to ship on February 11, 2003, EA attributed the reason for the delay to its strong lineup of other titles from now until early 2003.

For more Generals info, go to Westwood: Unleashed.

[ MooMan65: With this I have modified the countdown above to suit the new Feb 11 release date. And welcome back Un! ]

A Generals Delay

- MooMan65

November 8, 2002

Every report recently suggests that Generals will indeed be pushed back until February. I am waiting for the official word from EA Pacific to get an exact date and I will then modify the countdown in the Intro Panel above to reflect the new release date. Contrary to the normal feelings from a delay, I am actually glad for it, not only will they spend more time making sure it is in it's best possible shape on release, but also gives me more time to get the money to buy my own better computer to run it! But anyway, that extra month or so will fly by quickly!

Eagle Red Update

- MooMan65

November 7, 2002

Eagle has posted an update on the new Eagle Red Website about the brand new side he intends to add into V2.0 of his mod taking over Yuri. This side is called the Asian Alliance, and he has posted screenshots periodically showing off the new sides technology. Here is the latest one he released a few days ago (clicking on it will take you to their homepage where you can view the larger image):

Ex Liberta

November 5, 2002

I've put up a page on Ex Liberta. You can find it in the Projects section in the left sidebar. There's not much there yet - I'm going to put up more pages - but you get to see a little more of what the mod is about...and the logo

Interesting...

- MooMan65

November 5, 2002

While recolouring the voxels for the Capture Pack, I have actually found that the Soviet War Miner uses Allied colours for its body, not standard Soviet colours. I have fixed this by giving the existing voxel as the Allied capture counterpart, and created the Soviet and Yuri versions like normal through recolouring. However I am still testing if adding in extra Ore Miners will affect gameplay somehow. In theory there shouldn't be any problem as the AI will never use them, but more testing is needed. Just as a note if any voxels turn out to be reduntant in the Capture Pack, I will still release them here as proper MODDEN graphics downloads as other people may find them useful.

New Aircraft Voxel

- MooMan65

November 3, 2002

Wesforce sent me his latest aircraft voxel he created, this is a sequal to his earlier model called the Kamov Ka72 Hollowpoint. I helped him about by creating the cameo for it, but the majority of the work was done by him! Details are below:

Creator: Wesforce
-Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge
-Type: Aircraft
-Name: Kamov Ka72 Hollowpoint
-Available:
Here

#1 above is designed in pure remappable colours, just like the old RA1 scheme, while #2 is the Soviet version of the same voxel, both versions are included in the download.

CR Continuing Development

- MooMan65

November 2, 2002

After the release of V1.5 last week, Cannis is continuing work on CannisRules and has already posted information on the latest internal development V1.51 in preperation for the next public release in the future. These versions are not available for public download, the information is here just to let us know what changes are occuring to the mod behind the scenes. V1.51 details follow:

v1.51 11/3/02
-Fixed bug with Chrono Legionnaire crashing the game in Assault game modes when used to warp an Assault Flag out of time, by making Assault Flags immune to time-warp weapons.
(Note: MooMan's Rules version of the Assault game mode was able to fix this issue just before the release of V3.0, so Assault Flags are not able to be warped out by Chrono Legionnaires in the new V1.51 of CannisRules and V3.0 of MooMan's Rules)

-Added new Bridge Repair Hut artwork, so that they no longer look like door-less shipping crates that no one could fit in. Also added an arctic version for snow maps.

-Modified and improved the Allied Patriot Missile. It now shoots 2 missiles rather than 1; each missile does 60% of the damage the original single missile did, so total damage done is increased; and the missile batteries will fire on all targets within range, in rotation, rather than fire everything at the first target. Result is a very different behavior, and will give better results in some cases and worse results in others... but I feel that overall, it is a marked improvement.

-Added a very subtly improved Nuke Attack cameo. Basically the original's ugly sky background is replaced.

RA2 Mod Database

- MooMan65

November 2, 2002

A new RA2 Downloads page has been added, this is the RA2/YR Mod Database containing a list of good, high quality mods around the editing community which I have personally viewed over and recommend for everyone to try out. It is not a direct download page, as mirroring mods around the community is undesirable for many people, the page marely contains information on the mod and a link to their homepage where you can go for more information and the download if available. This is a good way to give mod sites some more popularity should they need it.

The mod list will continue to be expanded as I explore around the community, although if you would like to speed up my search and bring a worthy mod to my attention please e-mail me and I will check it out.

Also on the page you will find downloads for zipped up copies of all Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge .ini files needed to start your own mods. Although it is relativly simple to extract out the .ini files on your own, the download is here should you need it.

Head here to jump to the Mod Database page!

Future Projects?

- MooMan65

November 2, 2002

Right, now that MooMan's Rules is out of the door, what's next? What should I work on? Well, let me tell you that I have still got plenty of RA2/YR modding power in me! We still have the upcoming Capture Pack which I am working on full time now (expect the Project page for it to come online in the next couple of days), and our Generals guru TQ is hard at work with the planning of MODDEN's feature Generals mod, Ex Liberta (he's also working on getting EL's introductory Project pages up). So overall we still have a lot going on! I have received a few e-mails from people wondering if I will stop making proper mods altogether now... well... I asure you that I still have plenty of ideas up my sleave! Right now I'll work on getting the Capture Pack out so people can use that or encorporate it into their own mods, and plan the future afterwards.

Another Cameo Pack

- MooMan65

November 2, 2002

Clazzy sent in another cameo pack for MODDEN today! This time however it is a Sky Background Set, meaning the downloads are simply .pcx files with backgrounds of certain sky themes to suit air units that you may decide to add into your own mods. On their own they will not do anything to the game, but the readme file contains the details on what to do with them:

Creator: Clazzy
-Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge
-Type: Cameos
-Name: Sky Background Pack
-Available:
Here

The image above shows 6 samples out of the 11 total images in the download.

New Cameo Set

It is a group of five different cameos created by Clazzy all on the theme of a Nuclear Bomb! The download, unlike the others, also contain .pcx versions of the cameos as well as normal .shp versions in case you want to modify them yourself. Details follow:

New MODDEN Poll!

- MooMan65

November 1, 2002

Time for the November 2002 poll to start! Thanks to all who voted and BIG thanks to those who left comments! The new poll question now is:

Do you like the way C&C games are heading?

This is a tricky question to answer. What I mean by heading is Westwood/EA Pacific's switch to a 3D Interface, horizontal sidebar, no shroud, new storylines, new modding interfaces etc. You can vote here on the right hand sidebar! And please leave a comment while you are at it! You can also now click on a link below the poll to view past polls and comments left by the fans! Here's the last poll results:

"How often do you still play RA2/YR?"
[225 Votes Total]

-All the time! (91)
-Quite Often (70)
-Sometimes (34)
-Hardly at all (18)
-Never (12)

Some User Comments:

-lewstherin2001: I still play both all the time both unmodified and modified. I have no interest in Renegade. I am waiting for Generals to be released but at this time I am unable to play it due to the sytem requirements. :(:( Favorite mod for YR are... (I know shameless plug here) Moomans Rules.. Deezire... Cannis Rules BoP.. and a few other but these I play the most. These are in no favorite order either :)
-Deafwasp: RA2 was destroyed after Yuri's Revenge, it's not fun anymore. Renegade takes up my time now, and generals my dreams.
-pHeenIxx: It is still a a fun game. I don't play it without mods now though. I like seeing al the new units, structures, etc. Moomans rules ownz! I retired on online play. Too many hacks, cheats, etc.
-Jadame_Tamuli: The last time I even touched RA2/YR was to test some maps sent to me by someone working on a campaign for me. Other than that.... its probably been at LEAST two months since I played it....
-Bean_supreme1: I play RA2/YR often, but then again I have other games too!
-chickendippers: I play it every now and then when I feel like a 3 on 3 skirmish on Bay of Pigs.

Wow, looks like RA2/YR is still going strong! And based on the fan comments, it's largly thanks to the many awesome mods around the community! I'm glad my future RA2/YR Projects will still be well received by the fans!

New Project Added

- MooMan65

November 1, 2002

With the ravamp of the Projects sub-menu, I have added a new project to MODDEN. The Assault Mappack Project. This is not a project run by me, but by CannisRabidus, author of the CannisRules modifiecation. But as MooMan's Rules now support the Assault game mode, this has been added as a full mirror of the Project.

The Project itself are simply maps available for mods that have added support for the Assault Game Mode. Over time more and more maps will be added by Cannis either made by him or other people around the community. These maps are only playable in mods that have enabled the Assault game mode, so far that is only MooMan's Rules V3.0 and CannisRules V1.5. Simply extracting out the downloads to your RA2 Directory will enable the maps if the mod owner has set up the expansion correctly.

You will not find downloads of the map packs here on MODDEN, only on the official Assault Mappack page here, although all information is mirrored. This is so Cannis can do any modifications and additions he likes to maps on the page without having to contact mirrors like myself in updating them also. Every time however, a new mappack is released on the main site, I will update the Project pages here to match the information!

So downloads the maps, install a mod that support the game mode, and have fun!
