Major Feature 1 Part B: Snow Retexturing

- MooMan65

January 26, 2005

You know... It took me almost two years to get where I ended up with Temperate, working with it on and off trying to find the best methods to retexture the tilesets. Well thanks to me leaving shortcuts for myself wherever possible during those methods, I have been able to adjust the entire Snow theater in record time! Three weeks after completing the Temperate retexturing, Snow has been done!

So just like before, 10 new screenshots are available showing off the Snow theater. You'll notice that some tilesets like cliffs have been radically changed, some have been adjusted with new textures similer to their original versions, while others pretty much remain the same but have been modified slightly to properly fit in with the new graphics. I've pretty much changed them according to my own tastes. There's a number of sets that look pretty good normally so not much has been done, while others are just too old or bad that they could use a change. Two previews below, and just like before the rest are on the Screenshots page.

I got some good results from the Temperate challange with people guessing which maps the screenshots were from. I'll give you the answers now:

Farming Delight - Dustbowl (2)
Twilight Glow - Stormy Weather (2-4)
Tropical Paradise - El Dorado (2)
Hillside Wealth - Hidden Valley (2)
Derelict City - Isle Of War (2)
Sandy Canyon - Canyon Fodder (2-3)
Ghost Town - Anytown, Amerika (2-4)
Cozy Retreat - Anytown, Amerika (2-4)
Victorian Sanctuary - Territorial Imperative (2-8)
and finally...
Night Shift - Allied Co-Op Mission #1 (nobody got this one! )

Well... Time to test your knowledge on Snow maps while I move on to the Desert theater! Go ahead. Do your worst!

Major Feature 1 Part A: Temperate Retexturing

- MooMan65

January 13, 2005

Let the new info flow! And for the first time I am beginning to release public details on the major features that will be YR˛! Two such features will be in Beta 2.

So what is this new feature? Terrain retexturing! As in a new look for every terrain theater in the game! Maps will now look very different, and the game will seem quite different when you play it! This is one of the things that I hope will draw back some attention to the mod, and something that will really set it apart from other mods and the standard game itself. I plan to retexture every theater, and most of the things in it. Consequently this Major Feature will have a number of parts to it. Part A - E for each theater (I'm leaving out URBAN for reasons I will detail later.)

Yesterday I completed retexturing 95% of the Temperate theater which completes my modifications to it (some things look good normally so they don't need much adjustment) and have recently started on Snow. However, this wouldn't really have an impact on you guys without some screenshots eh? Well, that's what you've got! Every time I finish a theater I will release a number of screenshots showing it off. This is why I've not released many screenshots of Beta 1, as you've all seen mods with some new units and structure added... My screenshots will try to be of things that you don't normally see.

So! Click on the two below for some previews, then head to the Screenshots page view the entire lot. 10 in all!

CHALLENGE: For the bored ones amongst you, try to guess which map each these 10 screenshots came from! Don't worry, they're all official maps. Heheheh. Sorry I don't really have anything to offer as a prize for the first person who tells me. This is just something for you to do if you want.

One final note, a new info page has been added: Other Changes, which will detail things like these major changes that don't really suit being anywhere else.
