January 2003 |
| Time Flies! | | - MooMan65 | January 31, 2003 | Already the first month of 2003 is almost over! It's hard to imagine we've gone through one twelth of this year, I don't know about you but it has certainly flyed for me. I'm due to start a new poll soon so I now have an idea of what the majority of the people want next on MODDEN. I have now just started my last year at school (summer holidays have just finished) so I no longer have as much time on my hands as I have had in the past two and a half months. You will still see newsposts as often as the news is released, however site/project updates will take longer, even thought most content is dependant upon people willingly sending in their own work.
Based on the countdown above (which uses your system clock) there is only around 9/10 days left until C&C: Generals is released! We all know it's on time for a February 11th release in the US, with other countries getting it not too long after. It's amazing that it's been just under a year since it was first announced to the general public! Contrary to what we were origonally promised, there will be no early World Builder release, which is unfortunate. However it isn't a total loss as the utility will ship with the final game as they share the same game files. There's not much time to wait now! Although I won't be in any hurry to get my own copy as I know it will barely run fast enough to enjoy the experience.
| New Cameos @ YR:Arg | | - MooMan65 | January 31, 2003 | ArgCmdr has received two new cameo packs from Sydr0, the preview image on the left below is his Harrier Pack, while on the right is his Armor Pack #2:

You can get both of them here, head to the Icons --> Armored Page 2 for the downloads.
| Allies Revenge 3? | | - MooMan65 | January 31, 2003 | Is it in the making? Well, according to a new FAQ released by the AR2 Team it isn't. It appears there has been rumours and news posting on many C&C fansites around the community about this 'phantom' mod for Generals made by the Allies Revenge team. They posted this FAQ up so the official word can be known, here's a snippet:
So what is the truth? The truth is that none of these 'AR3 in the making' news was released by the AR2 team. We have not yet released any info about an AR3 mod for now and none of those mods reported to be in development are related to the AR2 team. We do not support the production of any of these mods, but in the future we might allow fans based mods to develop under our site.
Is there a real AR3? Any info? There is to be no AR3 released by the team. There is however another mod for Generals, only called Project R at this moment, in the planning stage, by the team. It is not the continuation to AR2, it is not a prequel nor a sequel. The mod however, if it is ever done, will take similar concepts to those used in the production of AR2. For the rest of the questions and answers, head over to the Allies Revenge 2 Website.

| YR: Secrets Revealed Artwork | | - MooMan65 | January 30, 2003 | Well, it looks like modified Billboard signs are becomming the trend nowadays! Hehe. This one will be featured in the Yuri's Revenge: Secrets Revealed Modification created primarily by SeaMan:

Pretty good! He has also let us know that due to him being ill and his .SHP Makers busy, the next version of the mod will not be released as origionally planned at the end of this month.
| Westwood/EA Pacific Closing | | - MooMan65 | January 29, 2003 | As reported on on the other DEN's earlier, Electronic Arts has announced a move that will see the demise of Westwood Studios and EA Pacific centers. Neowin reported this earlier:
As reported here on Neowin earlier today, Electronic Arts announced the results of the game publisher's third quarter 2003 fiscal year results, and as expected the largest third party console-PC game publisher had a record quarter with revenues of $1.23 billion for the period October-December 2002.
However, the biggest surprise in the EA financial statement was this: "In the fourth quarter, EA will begin the consolidation of our Los Angeles, Irvine and Las Vegas studios into a major game development studio in Los Angeles."
Based on this statement, this means the end of both Westwood Studios (Las Vegas) and EA Pacific (Irvine). EA's chief financial officer Warren Jenson was quoted in a report by the Reuters news service as saying saying that 50 jobs will be cut as a result of the consolidation. Although Westwood is no more, the Command & Conquer francise is going to live on. For the fans though it could be hard adjusting, but time does go on, and adjustments have to be made for the sake of buisness. I hope the future is still bright for C&C games!
| Project: JRP Updates | | - MooMan65 | January 29, 2003 | Justin has done a rather long newspost talking about the progress of the current Tech War 2 mod including a list of the new research facilities and a preview screenshot. Below is the list of new research structures:
-Allied Aviation -Allied Advanced Weapons -Allied Alloy -Allied Prism -Soviet Electrical -Soviet Alloy -Soviet Aviation -Soviet Advanced Weapons -Soviet Flammable Materials You can view the screenshot (it's rather large to be placed in a newspost here) and the many other things he's covered in the post by clicking here.
| ES Hosting Projects | | - MooMan65 | January 29, 2003 | I received a quick e-mail from Detail of Editing Source on the topic of the site now open for people needing hosts for their C&C Projects:
Editing Source is looking for new hosted sites and forums. Info about forum hosting can be found here and site hosting info here. So if you are interested check out the information pages!
| Another Generals Hidden Unit Unleashed | | - Unidentifiedname | January 28, 2003 | | Even though the GenEdit2k Hidden Units Week has long passed, Morphious has uncovered another Generals unit for the community. This time, they've got a USA infantry only seen in single player missions. For more info, go to the GenEdit2k Hidden Units page. | |
| Nemesis Vinifera Storage | | - MooMan65 | January 27, 2003 | The word 'Nemesis' is mentioned, so it must be Allies Revenge 2 news! That's right! The AR2 Team have added a new tech structure into the mod for the Nemesis to capture. The Nemesis Vinifera Storage structure will bring the team who captures it more power and funds. This may change however as it is still in the planning stages.
However the image is done, because it is a bit too large to be displayed here, head over to the Allies Revenge 2 Website to see it!
| BigPOP V0.3 Beta! | | - MooMan65 | January 27, 2003 | The ever-growing BigPOP utility created by Logan has now recently been updated to V0.3 Beta! The list of additions/improvements includes:
-Added CSF interpreter companion. Users can now edit CSF file while they are within a BIG archive. Supports the adding, deletion and editing of CSF language strings. This version was mainly devised to implement support for this format. -Improved Companion support. Companions can now be activated/deactivated for debugging purposes (at the moment). -Improved Event Log. Now logs a number of events (mostly BIG file-related) -Added basic 'New BIG file' code. Hope to have activated by next version. -Added reversed long and byte saving in relation to CSF file support. -Added right-click menu for BIG directory tree. Use this to edit files within the archive. -Miscellaneous bug fixes and code tweaks. -Fixed problem with installer not creating proper program and start menu groups. Head to CNCNZ now to download the full V0.3b utility (1.47MB) or the V0.2b Upgrade (85kB).
| We're Back! | | - MooMan65 | January 27, 2003 | | After two days of downtime, MODDEN is back up. Whatever server problems occured, they did not affect the other DGN Websites, only MODDEN. I am getting tired of these constant problems, every time something happens to the server, moves are done to fix it, only to have it go down again sometime later. I am as in the dark as to what happened as all of you, and if they keep continuing the situation will practically become impossible to maintain the site on a continuous basis. I could be forced to shut down MODDEN and/or look for other hosting opportunities to continue my work as a last resort, and I don't want to have to do that. But for now though, news will continue to roll as normal! | |
| Editing Community News | | - MooMan65 | January 25, 2003 | Wow, there's enough things going on the editing community to now warrent a general newspost! Things are picking up in the wake of a Generals release!
-Mad Ivan has informed me the Space Imperia website is available at it's new location being hosted at GenEdit2K. I have updated the link on MODDEN's affiliates column.
-RESCEN (C&C Resource Center) has been updated with new cameos (Tiberian Dawn conversion), voxels, tutorials and two mod updates! They've been busy!
-Morphious of GenEdit2K has uploaded a program by Scorpio9a that edits the C&C: Generals CSF Language file. This is another utility that has been out behind-the-scenes for quite some time. Get that here.
-And finally, YR: Argentina has a bunch of new cameos available for download.
| What A Coincidence! | | - MooMan65 | January 25, 2003 | I have received another e-mail on the topic of a recoloured Engineer, this was from Hunt7s, creator of the mod The Revolution. It first he thought his unit was the same as Clazzy's that I posted earlier, however, they are modelled after different infantry. The resemblance is striking though, this Engineer has firing animations.
Here's both the earlier one and the new one lined up for comparison, the new one is on the left and Clazzy's on the right.
| |
| Looks Good Doesn't It? | | - MooMan65 | January 24, 2003 |
Look familier? Hehe, it's an updated version of the animated billboard structure in CannisRules. Since the URL being displayed on the origional animation is now obsolete with the closure of RA2MG, Sypher_5 has created a new one for Cannis with an updated URL and C-GEN pic! Lookin' good! Head to the CannisRules Website here for the latest information on the mod.
| New Engineer! | | - MooMan65 | January 24, 2003 | No, not a submission, but a display. Clazzy has sent me a preview animated .gif file showing off his modified Engineer infantry unit for his mod Savage War. This Engineer has had many modifications and recolourations done to it, so I'll let the preview image speak for itself:

| BigPOP Updated | | - MooMan65 | January 24, 2003 | As reported on our sister site CNCDEN, Logan has updated his BigPOP utility for managing the Generals .BIG files to Version 0.2 Beta. Here is a list of changes and improvements made to the program:
- Major GUI changes and text tweaks. Added file information window, shows file size and name. - Added file replacement feature! The icon for a replaced file changes to red to let you know the data it contains is foreign. This feature is still VERY MUCH BETA! Back up your files. Replaced files, at the moment, retain the filename stored within the internal BIG directory. Altered BIGs may now also be saved. - Fixed bug that would cause the program to crash if you tried to extract (or replace) a file from an opened archive without actually selecting a file. - Fixed a spelling mistake on the progress bar window (BIF changed to BIG). - Added some more error-checking and handling. - BigPOP now shows up in the taskbar. - Basic implementation of 'Companions' feature. More on this next version. - Basic implementation of 'Event log' window. Again, more next version. - BIG directory tree now retains a grey highlight on the last selected file. - Added some handling to stop file operations being performed before a BIG file was loaded. You can now download it at CNCDEN, I will be starting up certain Generals modding downloads here at MODDEN soon in similer style to RA2/YR ones. Until then, you can download the latest version (and an update to V0.1b if you have it already) here!
| Morph Interviews DeeZire! | | - MooMan65 | January 23, 2003 | Good ol' Morphious of GenEdit2K has interviewed well-known community modder DeeZire with questions ranging from general information to modding and World Builder inquiries. Below is the one question that primarily concerns modding, and you view the other 6 here at GenEdit2K's Interviews page.
Morphious: The mod you made for RA2 was excellent. Any plans for Generals modding?
DeeZire: Thanx :D The RA2 mod had as many fans as it had critics - with that and the number of crashes I guess it was the Win98 of the mod world ;) What a lot of people didnt realize was that the whole idea of it was intentional - what I set out to do with it was - (i) make a mod that was as 'comical' in sense as the game itself, (ii) a mod that was true to the game itself (believable), (iii) make a mod I liked, and finally but most importantly (iv) have something that would inspire people to have a go themselves and that people could learn from. Despite its criticism for attracting newbies, I think its been a great success and without new people where would the editing community go and how would it grow? Growth is painful, but is a sign of progression, development and learning, and with RA2 I felt it was time that our beloved C&C series and its editing community 'grew' and caught up with the likes of the Unreal and Quake ones. I draw satisfaction from knowing that in some small way, that mod did something to bring the editing of C&C games to the fore, out of the underground and into the light. Love it or hate it, it was a pioneer :D Plans for Generals - hey, do Bears crap in the woods?! Again, anything I do will remain true to the game, within the bounds of the C&C universe and will be consistent with the storyline. This time round, it will be serious and certainly a lot better and higher in quality than previous stuff - thats got to be a pre-requisite and is a testament to the quality of the game, since anything less would ruin it rather than enhance it. More like the Tiberian Sun and AvP mods I did - extend and enhance the game, uplift the experience for players, stay true to the game, higher quality. I think the quality of Generals will more than likely mean the end of 'go it alone' mod work, and although I had a lot of help from a couple of friends with previous mods, this time round Im sounding out one or two long standing and respected community members so it will be a joint effort. Its important to me that anything I do doesnt get classed as 'mine' this time because it more than likely wont be the case - I'll play an equal part to others. The other reason for that is that if a Generals project gets associated with the RA2 DeeZire name people will develop pre-conceptions about it and that could be detrimental to its success as it will be totally different both in concept and production. Saying that, you can look forward to some traditional DeeZire stuff (muhahah) - although perhaps not quite as crazy this time round ;) The ideas I have for Generals have been buzzing around for a loooong time now, its gonna be great to get the chance to put them into reality. On a personal note, now that C&C editing is officially supported, Id like to 'step back' a little and support that growth. Without giving anything away, the time I spent with EAP gave me an amazing insight into how the game has developed from early stages - as a community member, thats got to be an advanatge to the rest of the editing community, so I see my role in that community now as being advisory and supportive. Nice long informative answer there. I'm glad Generals is overall a more 'serious' game than the comical nature of RA2, it makes people put more thought into their mods, I look forward to reading more in-depth information on future projects by DeeZire and other long-standing community members. Don't forget the two MODDEN feature mods Ex Liberta and Impliment Law are still full in planning mode by their respective designers!
Back on topic, keep checking the DeeZire Online website, I'm sure there will be many updates concerning DeeZire's Projects and general editing info for Generals in the upcoming weeks.
| AR2 News | | - MooMan65 | January 23, 2003 | The Allies Revenge 2 mod has been given the honor of being featured in the February 2003 edition of PC Gamer UK! Congratulations to the team for this accomplishment! If you aren't in the UK, or don't have access to the magazine or CD (like me), Chrono has posted up a screenshot of the CD-run browser program with AR2 selected!
Also they have posted a preview screenshot of Nemesis Mission #1 in the works right now by tmapm and Vinifera7. Click on any thumbnail below, either of the PC Gamer or Mission image to jump to the AR2 site where you can view the larger images!

| Checkin In | | - MooMan65 | January 23, 2003 | | Sorry for the lack of news updates in the last day, I've been very busy with offline matters which has stopped me coming online too much. I'm pretty much free of major project work now, I'm awaiting the final count of votes in the current MODDEN Poll when it closes at the end of this month so I get the final idea about what to work on next. I will continue news updating as normal from now on. | |
| Generals .BIG Editors | | - MooMan65 | January 22, 2003 | Thanks to DeeZire at DeeZire Online for this, there are two simple editors now available that allow you to explore the Generals .BIG files and extract out files that you want.
The first one is writted by Logan and is available over at CNCNZ for public download.
The second is created by the one and only Olaf van der Spek, creator of the XCC (eXtended Command & Conquer) Utilities for managing the files from Tiberian Dawn to Red Alert 2 and beyond! The XCC Universal Container Reader has been out for some time, however it's been somewhat resticted in use until now, since there is only a few weeks now until release. You can download this nifty program not at the official XCC site (unless you know the link privatly), but Morph of GenEdit2k has uploaded it and is available for download here.
Both Editors do the job, and those of you in the MP Test and did not use any previous .BIG extractors can now explore themselves!
| Armageddon Entertainment | | - MooMan65 | January 22, 2003 | | Unidentifiedname posted this at the end of last year, however the actual site and some hosted ones have not been online until a few days ago when they got completly set up. Armageddon Entertainment is now up and running with a proper main portal page and it's forums! Not all of it's listed hosted sites are available, but they are getting there! I mentioned earlier that Code Red had moved properly to it's new home there. Armageddon Entertainment was planned when Federation Studios closed it's doors, and offers free subdomain hosting with many oppertunities not normally found in general free hosts. | |
| Allies Revenge 2 News | | - MooMan65 | January 22, 2003 | A small update has been posted by Chrono on the progress of V4.0. Including a preview description of the beginning storyline in the Nemisis missions! Here's an extract:
In the mission Nemesis started their plan of vengeance and was destroying small Genesis cities everywhere while surrounding large, shielded metropolis. Units were sent for the destruction as well as the termination of Genesis mining activities. However the Scrin attacked at the same time and the plan was forced to take a change. In the missions later on Nemesis will need to move carefully and capture vital technologies from Genesis in order to survive. In addition to that they have added a new poll, the questions is 'What will interest you most in a Nemesis campaign?'. The four choices are 'Scrin Units in Action', 'Twisted, Interesting Plot', 'Very Hard Missions', or 'Decorated Maps and Cityscape'. Head here for all the news!
| Generals Goes GOLD! | | - Lion | January 21, 2003 | It's now OFFICIAL...C&C Generals has GONE GOLD. This news comes from Gamespot.EA announces that the upcoming Command & Conquer game is complete and will ship on schedule. Electronic Arts has confirmed for us that Command & Conquer: Generals has gone GOLD and will ship on February 11. The development team at the Irvine, California-based EA Pacific studio submitted a final candidate version to EA last week, and the game is now officially complete and ready for manufacturing. Generals is the first game in an original Command & Conquer setting that borrows from modern-day conflicts. "From the beginning of the development of Generals, we wanted to offer players a Hollywood version of the war you're seeing on CNN with the much-loved C&C feel," said Mark Skaggs, general manager of EA Pacific. "The team is incredibly proud of the outcome and we can't wait to get the game in players' hands." On a side note, Gamespot has also posted up a brand NEW preview of the game. I won't spoil your fun. Go check it out HERE!
Just a reminder, for all your C&C Generals goodies including daily news, screenshots, desktop wallpaper, movies downloads, and tons of game info, head on over to the other DEN... CNCDEN!

| Blitzkrieg II Announced! | | - MooMan65 | January 19, 2003 | BIG update on the Blitzkrieg Homepage! Smurfbizkit has officially announced the existance of Blitzkrieg II for the upcoming C&C: Generals! Here's the majority of the announcement here:
I would like to take this time to announce the existence of Blitzkrieg II. As the news title suggests, this is a mod for the upcoming Command and Conquer: Generals. We have been secretly working on the mod for the past month or so, since the entire team received beta disks. During that time we have planned the mod and have started production on it even. The team rooster has changed slightly from the Blitzkrieg I(the mod for RA2/YR), [DK]Phil is stepping down as head of the mod due to personal reasons, he will still be on as an advisor and beta tester. Thus I will be taking over the position of team leader. The other member’s jobs’ will be slightly different, but the most exciting news about the new team is our latest additions. Some of you might remember Proclone from the early Ra2 days…he made some very nice models of some of the units, and posted them up on sites. He is our head modeler now…we are very lucky to have him. The other great new addition is Chrono from AR2 fame. He will be leading up the INI editing section of the team. We are also testing out a skinner/texture artist, but I won’t announce that until its for sure. They have also posted 9 preview screenshots of temporary skins and models for your viewing pleasure! Check out the rest of the announcement (and the screenshots) here and keep an eye out on their forums which is updated more regularly with news topics.
| Voxel Section Editor II V1.7 | | - MooMan65 | January 19, 2003 | Thanks to Lion posting this on RADEN is needed to be posted here also. Koen Van de Sande has finally gotten V1.7 out of beta and into the final version! You can get it here at the TibEd Website. Revisions include:
-Fixed 3D view to support full rotation; thanks to Stucuk for this!
-BUGFIX: When in Normals editing mode, no longer will the color change too. The modes are now independant (at least when drawing).
Very nice! I will update the Utilities page shortly with the new version.
| TW2 Progress Update | | - MooMan65 | January 18, 2003 | Justin has posted a progress update of his mod Tech War 2 on his Project: JRP website. Here's some of the changes he's listed:
-Chrono-tank now costs 1650, armor increased
-Chrono-tank weapon modified - stronger and slightly longer range
-The allies will no longer start with mammoths (woops!)
-ADF-10 speed and rate of turn slightly modified so hopefully it doesn't get stuck circling around areas.
-Aviation research image changed, no longer has landing pads as well
-Mobile scud launcher maximum range reduced, minimum range increased, no longer deploys to fire, explodes violently when destroyed.
-Tiger grand helicopter image added, no roter animation yet
-Napalm helicopter image added, no roter animation yet. To view the rest and other information on the mod in general, head here!

| CannisRules Update! | | - MooMan65 | January 18, 2003 | Woo! First update on the mod by Cannis in over a month and a half! Due to him being busy with the whole C-GEN project, he hasn't had a lot of time to work on it recently. However spider-man, his somewhat resident voxel maker, has continued his work producing a possible Secret Lab country-specific unit, the Iraqi Rad Artillery. Here's the newest additions/changes for Internal Development V1.54:
v1.54 1/18/03
-Added Iraqi Rad Artillery, a "theoretical" country-specific unit that is a possible Secret Lab build option. Unit behavior and weapon coding is also complete. -Replaced Yuri Base Expansion vehicle voxel with a totally new one created by spider-man, using an early Yuri MCV concept sketch as inspiration. Some appearance tweaking is still being done on this voxel, but I consider it 99% complete. -Spider-man has recolored his Gattling Boat and Transport Disc voxels for better appearance and for better integration into Yuri's army. -Soviet Base Expansion Vehicle cameo icon is slightly altered to better match the new voxel included in the last update. Looking good! You can see an in-game image of the Rad Artillery in action along with it's cameo at the CannisRules Website.
| New SnowUrban Preview! | | - MooMan65 | January 18, 2003 | Blade has sent me the latest in the SnowUrban preview shots in the works by DJBREIT, this is the largest and most detailed one yet, and is packed full of new tile additions too numerous to mention! Included are more snow port tiles, single lane roads and pavement slopes! Click on the thumbnail below to jump to the Terrain Expansion screenshots page where you can view the larger image!

| |
| A 'Mole Machine'? | | - MooMan65 | January 18, 2003 | If you are wondering that's the name of a Yuri unit that will be featured in the upcoming modification The Project. That's right, the mod is still in the works even though the site isn't available right now. Blade is basically releasing his promo pics and info on a number of editing forums around the community. I saw this on the DeeZire Online Forums. The promo image posted there shows off the Mole Machine voxel created by Spider-man, and a cameo created by Blade. Click on the thumbnail below to just to the topic!

| CnC Zone Interview | | - Unidentifiedname | January 18, 2003 | Neo of CnC Zone has posted up two new interviews with RVMECH and SeaMan. Below is a snippet from RV's interview:
mcgl0re1:. "Thank you RV! Just a few more, if I may? Do you have a clue as to a max sides we can add? Are you going to mod Generals? Or are you going to stick with maps for now? What programs are we going to need to make units/buildings for Generals? (I know this has been answered but I have seen different answers) How long, in your opinion, will it take to learn the Editor, and the tutorial to make a Good map?" Make your way to CnC Zone for the answer.
| Mod News | | - Unidentifiedname | January 18, 2003 | | Jeremy of CnC Sector has conducted a interview with DarkOmen, leader of the CnC Reborn mod team. In addition to that, Jamie has posted 3 new Renegade skins for Renegade fans. Get them from CnC Sector now! | |

| Hidden Concept #5-7 | | - MooMan65 | January 17, 2003 | Thanks to some recent server issues, I havn't been able to post this when they came, but better late than never right!?
Morph has posted on GenEdit2k's Hidden Units obsolete or unknown concepts from Day's 5 through to 7!
Day 5: In completion of GLA's hidden units comes a final screenshot, you can see part of the GLA Jail, GLA POW Truck, a different version of the Angry Mod escaping the Jail, and the GLA Toxin Plant.
Day 6: Actually three images today, showing obsolete models of certain units, including the old Cursader Tank, obsolete Leapord Tank and old Scorpian Tank models.
Day 7: Finally, you can see a test model of the Mammoth Tank apparently used when initial testing of the engine was underway.
And that is it for the week of hidden concepts for Generals! You can view the entire 7 days worth of info and images here. Well done Morph!
| New Graphic @ RESCEN | | - MooMan65 | January 16, 2003 | RESCEN (C&C Resource Center)'s Detail has given Mig Eater his own artist page for his graphics. First up there is his Crusader Heavy Tank (in no way related to the Generals Crusader if you are wondering ). Click on the thumbnail below to go to his download page:

| Capture Pack V2.0! | | - MooMan65 | January 15, 2003 | The day has arrived, the release of the Capture Pack V2.0 (somewhat a naval unit version) is upon us!
V2.0 Additions
-6 Naval Units modified -2 Now-Obsolete Soviet Structures put to use (Psychic Radar & Cloning Vats). -Improved Gattling Tank's alternate turrets (Thanks Union 257!) -Added Alternate Flak Track cameos.
This is more useful for modifications rather than general use, as normally Engineers cannot capture Naval Yards, the only other way would be to use a Yuri Prime which is a rare occasion. However if mods make capturing Naval Yards easier then these additions are rather useful! All relevent information pages here on MODDEN have been updated and the download replaced so everything is sorted. This new versions puts the origional Soviet-looking Psychic Radar and Cloning Vats to use again so if you happen to be Soviets and gain the ability to build these structures, they use the same graphics as in the origional RA2.
There shouldn't be any problems with the add-on, I was rather rushed to get this out however as there's been a long enough wait already. If you find anything that seems weird and not right, please don't hesitate to e-mail me so I can assess it and update the download if necessary. The file is only about 3MB large so it isn't too hefty on any connection.
Enjoy! | |
| Delphi Moves On | | - MooMan65 | January 15, 2003 | Major announcement here, so I thought I should post it. Delphi (Chris Rubyor) has posted on the Official Generals Message Boards that he stepping down as online community manager and board moderator for EAP, I'll let his message tell the rest:
Hey guys,
As of today I will no longer be handling the message board moderation and community events for Generals.
What does that mean? The guys over at Electronic Arts Pacific will be taking over all the community activities based around C&C Generals. Many of you already know Shanahan-EAP; Amer-EAP will now be joining the message board team helping to field questions and run board events. They’ll be more than happy to help you out with your inquries and requests.
Now many of you may be asking yourselves “What’s next for Delphi?” Well, I have been given the opportunity to work for the development team on a next generation title being created by Westwood Studios. Sadly, I cannot talk about the project at this time, but I can guarantee you will be “VERY” surprised when it’s announced.
I just want to thank all for the vast amount of messages (heh) and creative posts I’ve had the chance to edit. I’d like to also thank those of you who had the chance to provide MP Test feedback over the past few months. It has helped the team greatly in creating a better game.
Even though I may not be posting as much I will be watching. Your feedback and concerns will be very important to us for the future.
Cya online! So, he is not leaving completly, just moving on to another position. He has helped the fans greatly over the last couple of years and answered many questions (however vague they were)! What could this 'next generation' title be then? With his remark about us being surprised it may not be the well-discussed Tiberian Twilight or Red Alert 3... I do hope it is a sequal to one of the universes though, C&C for me is all about GDI/Nod, or Allies/Soviets, and the storylines are all still open for continuations of the timeline...

| Renegade Alert Allied Ranger Model | | - Unidentifiedname | January 15, 2003 | Renegade Realm has also released a pic of the Allied Ranger model. Here's a preview:

Click on the thumb for the link.
| Exploding Renegade Structure | | - Unidentifiedname | January 15, 2003 | | In case you're interested, CnC Source has got some pictures of an exploding obelisk in Renegade. | |
| Hidden Concept #4 | | - MooMan65 | January 14, 2003 | | Morph continues to show off the images at GenEdit2k displaying obsolete or removed concepts in Generals before the current version of the game. This time it's an in-game image of GLA's Airfield shown yesterday along with GLA's Power Plant they were going to have before it was removed, and a black stealth fighter jet! Head here to catch that image and all the ones that have been released in the past! | |
| TX Pages Updated | | - MooMan65 | January 14, 2003 | I couldn't wait much longer so I have done some quick updates on all Terrain Expansion project pages. This includes two screenshots of the upcoming V1.4 and it's SnowUrban tiles courtasy of DJBREIT! Click on the thumbnails to view the larger images, alternativly you can now also view these here at the TX Screenshots page on MODDEN. These previews have also been posted on certain editing forums around the community recently.

I have also uploaded the RA2 Tunnel Fix download (for people without Yuri's Revenge to use the tunnels) to MODDEN as before only The Project had it, and was unavailable during the whole time the site was down. The downloads and information is now complete at this point in time.
| Terrain Expansion Update | | - MooMan65 | January 14, 2003 | Ever since the opening of MODDEN, and the loss of Blade's The Project site when Federation Studios closed its doors, there hasn't been much announced in the way of the Terrain Expansion. This is rather my fault as I have neglected it while lying in wait to see what Blade plans to do with a site in the future.
What is rather unknown, is that there is a new update for the TX being planned. V1.4 has been in the works since V1.3 was released months ago, it has just been set back with the events that have happened. Blade has contacted me recently updating me on the progress of it, and on a few editing forums even some preview screenshots have been posted of the new tiles being added in V1.4. We are currently discussing what to do about the homepage situation of the TX since MODDEN right now is the only available site that has it featured officially, and expect things to pick up around it in the near future. I will attempt to update the information pages as well as the screenshot page to show off the V1.4 previews to the general public. Stay tuned!
| Some Modding News | | - MooMan65 | January 13, 2003 | -Eagle Red has moved to its new domain name (http://www.eaglered.net). I have updated the links on MODDEN accordingly.
-CNC Series has reviewed the Blitzkrieg Total Conversion overall giving it a high score of 99%! You can catch the entire thing here here.
-And on that note, CNC Series also reviewed MooMan's Rules back in the RADEN days when it ws being hosted there, although it wasn't truely announced as I never had my own site then. You can find that here if you feel like reading it. It was about V1.2 (before the Yuri's Revenge version came out so it's a bit obsolete). It got a 9 out of 10!
| Allies Revenge 2 News | | - MooMan65 | January 13, 2003 | Chrono has posted a rundown of the main solid features being addressed in V4.0! Still no release date yet, but the list helps clear up the confusion. Here's the main points:
-Bug Fixes: Including the one that randomly crashes the game with an Internal Error.
-All New Units: Including more buildable units for both sides and buildable MCVs!
-New Buildings: Genesis City structures, more buildable structures and improved structure images all thrown into the mix!
-Whole New Maps: What update would be complete without it?!
-Nemesis Campaign: w00t! This is what makes a Total Conversion complete! It is still under consideration whether or not it'll be released with V4.0 or not but we can hope! The Allies Revenge 2 Homepage contains the full information AND some pictures of the features above!
| Another Hidden Unit Unleashed | | - Unidentifiedname | January 13, 2003 | | In addition to the GLA Airfield that Moo mentioned below, Morph of GenEdit2k has just released a shot of the defender drone. As Moo stated, head to their Hidden Units Page for the details. | |
| Hidden Concept #2 | | - MooMan65 | January 12, 2003 | Slightly older news since MODDEN was down earlier which hindered me posting about it before, but regardless, GenEdit2k has posted up an image of the proposed GLA Airfield when it was origionally conceived that this terrorist army would have air power!
Head here to go to GenEdit2k's Hidden Units page where a new concept will be added there each day this week if all goes well! Who knows what hidden graphics are available in the full game that aren't actually being used? With full mod support I wouldn't be surprised to see some!
| Site Updates | | - MooMan65 | January 12, 2003 | I apologise for the downtime earlier, I contacted our host and he has sorted everything out (thanks TheVoice!), there shouldn't be any more problems now. During this time though the site updates didn't stop!
Renegade has sent in updated versions of his three submissions he sent in yesterday each with cameos.

I have uploaded these updates to take the place of the earlier downloads, so for those of you who downloaded the files earlier and want a cameo to go with them, I suggest you redownload them now.
Also, Sypher_5 has alerted me to a problem with the 'It Came From Red Alert' Animation submitted a few days ago. It seemed the .zip file was corrupted when I uploaded it. No worries now, I have fixed the download and tested it so it works perfectly!
| Mod Map Night | | - Unidentifiedname | January 11, 2003 | | Kresin of Team Dri Reign Mods states that he's gonna hold a chat for his mod RA2 Vengence on the 18th of January (next Sat). He also mentions that CnC HQ is gonna have a Mod Map Night at 7 PM Eastern Time. Make your way to CnC HQ for the details. | |
| New Structures & Unit! | | - MooMan65 | January 11, 2003 | More goodies today! Renegade has sent in three submissions that also feature in his mod Total Destruction. Two are structures (or more specifically, walls), and one is a unit I must closly classify as a Ship, a remake of the Brontosaurus infantry in the game as a squid-style naval unit:
| Creator: Renegade -Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge -Type: Structure -Name: Yuri Advanced Kremlin Wall -Available: Here | | Creator: Renegade -Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge -Type: Structure -Name: Allied Barricade Wall -Available: Here | | Creator: Renegade -Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge -Type: Ship -Name: Yuri Brontosaurus Remake -Available: Here |

| Mystery Generals Unit! | | - MooMan65 | January 11, 2003 | Thanks to a mystery inside source at EA Pacific, Morphious of GenEdit2k has posted up two images of a Generals unit not even currently in the Multiplayer Test .INI files! It is some sort of amphibious tank that changes it's frame over water! Head over there now to check out the screenshots for yourself! Expect to see one new mystery unit revealed per day in the future!
[ Edit: That unit is actually an earlier version of the Crusader Tank (if it looks familier to you check out the really early screenshots of Generals, it's in there) in upgraded mode which allowed it to cross terrain it normally couldn't (aka water). ]
| Capture Pack Update | | - MooMan65 | January 10, 2003 | | As Cannis has been rather busy with his RA2MG Revivial site C-GEN and my rather hectic life recently, V2.0 of the Capture Pack won't feature many modified cameos. So far only one extra unit cameo has been modified and that is the Flak Track. Since right now I'm mainly getting the coding done and testing them with the graphics parts finished, I will wait for future updates before any more modified cameos are added, unless I find the time in the near future. | |
| PCNC Reviews AR2! | | - MooMan65 | January 9, 2003 | Planet CNC has done a rather in-depth and informative review on recently-released Total Conversion modification Allies Revenge 2 and gave them an overall score of 80%. I highly suggest you read through it as it's very useful for people just wondering if it is worth downloading. Here's a snippet:
Although the gameplay is fast, some would say it is too fast. Buildings and tanks seem to die too quickly for my tastes. In 3 way free for all games I noticed that a lot could be done with simple infantry rushes. Structural armor wasn’t nearly what it should have been to keep the game enjoyable. Another mysterious qualm about the gameplay is that while playing as the Nemesis, I could not figure out for the life of me why my funds kept on draining to zero. Even with nothing being built and nothing in the queue my money was disappearing before my very eyes. It left me several times with no cash, usually as the enemy made an assault on my base. Slavik was talking about the 'running cost' of structures in the last half of that paragraph, it was put in as a base control method. So far I myself have never had a fund drain, although I agree with what he was saying about structure armor. When watching the AI, it seemed the first team to attack with a force would win, especially in 'Short Game' matches. However overall it is a very promising mod that future updates would be welcomed greatly!
You can catch the rest of the review here.
| Eagle Red Online! | | - MooMan65 | January 9, 2003 | The Eagle Red Homepage is now back on it's own server! If you kept track before, the site was unavailable when the Stardust Studios network went down. Instead of waiting for the site to come back up, Eagle decided to just get his own server and so now the site is back up!
Eagle has also said he will be registering http://www.eaglered.net soon so the current URL is only temporary. I will update the links on MODDEN when this new domain is active. In the mean time, we await Eagle Red V1.8!
| New Animations! | | - MooMan65 | January 9, 2003 | First new submissions for 2003 people! These have been submitted by SeaMan. What's unique is that this starts up the RA2 Animations download section!
| Creator: Sypher_5, Blade, SeaMan -Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge -Type: Animation -Name: 'It Came From Red Alert' Movie Screen Animation -Available: Here | | Creator: SeaMan -Game: Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge -Type: Animation -Name: Genetic Mutator Activation Beam -Available: Here |

| Generals Goes Beta! | | - MooMan65 | January 8, 2003 | That's right! The first major milestone has been hit! Generals has hit the beta milestone! Here's the press release I received in my inbox today:
COMMAND & CONQUER GENERALS HITS BETA MILESTONE
First 3D C&C RTS ships to stores February 11
IRVINE, CA (Jan. 8, 2002) - Forget CNN! Take control of the war in the Middle East for yourself. Electronic Arts announced today that the highly-anticipated 3D real-time strategy game, Command & Conquer Generals(tm) has hit its beta milestone, and will ship to stores Feb. 11, 2003. Command & Conquer Generals will be published by EA (NASDAQ:ERTS) under the EA GAMES(tm) brand.
Achieving the beta milestone indicates that Command & Conquer Generals is now feature-complete and the development team is now finalizing the game to be sent to the manufacturing plant.
"The beta milestone is a tremendous achievement for the development team," said Mark Skaggs, general manager of EA Pacific and executive in charge of production for Command & Conquer Generals. "More than 50 of our industry's top talent have been working non-stop for the past several months to ensure that we have a solid, highly-polished, immensely-enjoyable game.
EA is currently conducting a public multiplay test of Command & Conquer Generals, involving more than 3,000 people around the world. The public test is giving participants a chance to play the game's multiplay mode via the Internet, includes five maps, and allows gamers to play as each of the three unique sides in the game.
"The community's feedback from the multiplay test was instrumental in helping us achieve this beta milestone," continued Mark Skaggs. "I do want to stress that we will continue to solicit their feedback to further balance and enhance the multiplay experience before shipping to stores."
Command & Conquer Generals puts players' trigger fingers on the pulse of modern warfare as they become a powerful general and control massive armies of bleeding-edge military weaponry across a globe teetering on the brink of Armageddon. Three unique sides will be available, each with customizable high-tech arsenals ready to deliver unprecedented firepower on land or in the skies. Players can annihilate the opposition in the 23-mission single-player campaign or dish out the damage in global multiplayer mayhem. Certain big news! Generals seems to be on time and now we wait for the announcement that it's gone gold! Exciting times!

| YR: Secrets Revealed Moved | | - MooMan65 | January 7, 2003 | Seaman has moved his YR: Secrets Revealed website to a new location hosted under the new C-GEN site. The new location is http://www.cannis.net/yuri so you should update your bookmarks!
I will be updating the links here on MODDEN to direct you to the new location soon.
| New Tutorials | | - MooMan65 | January 7, 2003 | ...at YR: Argentina to be percise. Three of them. One recent one about attacking systems, and two ones released earlier explaining how to make a building and how to make a cameo. These basic tutorials would be rather helpful for people newer to modding, plus now I have a place to refer people to should they ask via e-mail how to do these things... Hehe. So anyway, head to their tutorials section right now to read up on them should you be interested! | |
