« CAPTURE PACK »
FAQ/CONTRIBUTORS

Here is a small list of the questions I believe may be frequently asked to me by users of the Capture Pack:

Sometimes a certain duplicate unit doesn't appear on the sidebar even though I have followed the correct steps that have worked on other duplicates I have added. What's going on?

Most likely the problem lies with the RA2/YR Parser itself, sometimes it 'forgets' to read the last section in a certain .INI files, most commonly for the Capture Pack the MPxxxxxxxx.INI files. To get around this problem you need to add in a dummy entry at the bottom of your .INI file to force the Parser to read all the relevant entries. If you take a look at the default .INI files in the download you will see the MPxxxxxxxx.INI files have [CAPTURE] typed at the bottom. That is a dummy entry. Doing something like that in your own MPxxxxxxxx.INI files should solve the problem.

When I add in duplicates for a certain existing unit in the game, the normal unit refuses to be restricted to it's standard side! And I end up having two units available! How do I fix this?

Again, this is a possible result of not having a dummy entry in your MPxxxxxxxx.INI files, the Parser is not reading the entry of restricting the original unit in the game to specific sides. Use the solution method above to fix the problem.

This is some pretty radical new logic, are there any restrictions that will hinder some units from ever being modified?

Unfortunately, there have been come problems which may completely exclude certain units from the pack:

  • The limitations of the RA2/YR Engine mean that there can only be one IFV type of unit, and so the Capture Pack does not employ alternate versions of the Allied IFV. When you capture an Allied War Factory, IFVs are produced normally, not in your own colour scheme.

  • As multiple versions of Construction Yards are not really supported in the game, MCVs will never be modified in the Capture Pack.

  • Since special country units are not available anyway through capturing, alternate versions are not useable, however the ECACHECAPTURE.MIX file does contain recoloured versions of all special country vehicles should another mod maker want to use them. (The limitations of Secret Lab logic mean that this logic cannot be encorporated if you obtain the special unit through this Tech Building either.)

All the online names of community members which have helped and contributed things towards the Capture Pack are listed below:

CannisRabidus
For first suggesting the idea of using modified cameos and contributing a number of them that is included in this pack.

TQ
For originally working on the Soviet versions of some units and assisting in the discussions about making recolouring voxels more easily done.

Sleipnir64
For inspiring me into first creating the Capture Pack thanks for him enlightening me in his form of text voxel editing.

Union 257
For doing recolouration of the multi-sectioned Gattling Tank turret voxel for me in V2.0 onwards.

If you are willing to submit graphics which are not included in the current version of the Capture Pack and yet will be useful for future versions, please don't hesitate to send them to me!
